ABET-Lemelson award wrapup
Here are some final thoughts, photos, and links associated with the ABET and The Lemelson Foundation Engineering for One Planet Innovation in Sustainability Award ceremony and dinner.
Thoughts and photos
I’m grateful for my friend and colleague Jeremy VanAntwerp who nominated me for the award. We had a really nice time hanging out together throughout the weekend.
Here are some photos from the day of the award ceremony, Friday 24 October 2025.
On the exceptionally clear day, we took a walk around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
Jeremy had been a few times; I had never. He was a great tour guide!
We took the water taxi …
… walked to Federal Hill …
… then to Oriole Park at Camden Yards …
… and the USS Constellation.
Lunch and breakfast the next morning were at Miss Shirley’s Cafe.
The ceremony and my speech went well.
I received a nice memento.
After dinner, we took a short walk along the Harbor to debrief and compare notes.
I’m grateful to our hosts at ABET for their generosity and hospitality throughout the weekend. I’m thankful to the Lemelson Foundation for sponsoring the award and for partnering with ABET to highlight the importance of sustainability in engineering education.
